Hello, and welcome to Magically Delicious, the newsletter for my big adventure in 2024. On April 18, I will travel to Ireland and make my way south to the Ballymaloe Cookery School for a 12 week certificate course.1
I’ll live in a wee cottage at the school, cook all manner of things, meet ALL the cows and chickens and pigs, learn a ton, and hopefully return full of tall tales and also probably all of the bread.
My trip prep has consisted of buying things like chef whites and wellies and a long sleeved bathing suit because apparently dips in the sea after class are a thing. I have rented a car (!) and set up an international calling plan. Also I have been reviewing BCS’ Instagram like a Kremlinologist to learn all I can about what I’ll be doing and who I’ll be doing it with. Re: the latter, mostly people way younger than me but I’m embracing my inner Isabella Rossellini so hello everybody!
Since there is no way my menopausal brain will remember everything for twelve weeks, I’m hoping to chronicle the highlights here. You can follow me on this platform (I think you can just get it by email), and on Facebook and Instagram (@lisalaskin and @ballymaloecookeryschool). If I can figure out how to do it, there will be pictures, and if you know me, you know there will probably also be swears, CAPS, Oxford commas, and exclamation points!!!!!!! There will not be recipes. This isn’t a cookbook forgodssake.

Stop with the smirking “Ireland? For cooking?” comments, just stop. They have a massive farm-to-table movement there, started at Ballymaloe, also amazing resources and ingredients, and it’s a fecking famous cooking school, LOOK IT UP.
